Workshop with Kay Kalytta: Humorsound

The workshop “Humorsound” offers a creative opportunity to explore and collect humorous and quirky sounds in order to create a musical sound collage. Participants will learn how to visually represent these sounds in the form of a storyboard composition, using collage techniques to tell a short, funny sound-based story.

As part of the workshop, sound design will also be covered, including implementation using an editing program. A selection of audio material and technical equipment will be available to participants, allowing creativity to run free. Recommended: for personalizing the visual elements, please bring your own colored pencils and A4-format paper. The workshop results will be presented during the festival.

Phonotrope Workshop with Franka Sachse (VJ Loov) und Ben Sassen (Sunhillow)

In circular motions, we move toward the center. From the combination of a turntable, a camera, and specially prepared discs, a phonotrope is created. This animation machine makes visible the movements hidden within the sequential images on the discs.

In this year’s Stop-Motion Workshop, we’ll create our own phonotrope discs and use turntables not only for playback, but also for adding sound to the resulting moving images. Through mixing, sampling, and looping, your own phonotrope clips will emerge in a playful dialogue between image and sound.

Since we’ll be working with paint, glue, and other crafting materials, we recommend wearing clothes that can get messy. Personal ideas, materials, and sound samples are welcome. It’s a good idea to bring your own smartphone with charging cable and/or a laptop, especially if you have video or sound editing software.

The results of the workshop will be presented during the festival. Participants will receive festival accreditation.
